The Merton Music Foundation is committed to providing quality live music opportunities for children in schools. The MMF provides a varied programme of music-making initiatives that brings music into the lives of thousands of Merton children. Section 5 of the National Curriculum (Breadth of Study) includes the statement that "During the key stage, pupils should be taught the Knowledge, skills and understanding through: a range of live and recorded music from different times and cultures."
To help support this requirement of the National Curriculum, the MMF through its Project Development Programme provides a regular series of curriculum enhancing projects for Merton LEA schools. The initiative, which is supported by the DfES Standards Fund, Merton LA and the MMF, enables schools to have regular access to high quality live music projects with experienced visiting professional musicians.
