Merton Sings Christmas
Merton Music Foundation was delighted to be approached to create a CD for the ‘Christmas Lunch on Jesus’ food hampers which will be delivered to needy families in Merton in readiness for Christmas Day.
We contacted our many musical friends across the borough and were thrilled that so many local choirs and singers were able to give so generously of their time and talents to create a fabulous ‘home grown’ Christmas CD. It features children from MMF’s Young Voices and VoiceBox, St Mary’s RC and Holy Trinity CE schools, and The Grove Singers, St John’s Singers, Wimbledon Community Chorus and Wimbledon Choral Society with music composed or arranged by local musicians and recorded at Crown Lane Studio.
Merton Sings Christmas is a celebration of the power of community music-making and a commitment to ‘giving something back’ - so please buy a CD (available from the MMF office and our Online Shop) and play it over Christmas so that you can share in and support this local worthwhile charitable project.
Merton Sings Christmas is a collection of 12 Christmas carols performed, written or arranged by Merton musicians, performed by 8 Merton choirs – Wimbledon Community Chorus, Wimbledon Choral Society, St John’s Singers, The Grove Singers, MMF’s Young Voices and VoiceBox choirs and children from St Mary’s RC and Holy Trinity C of E Primary schools. The project came about as a collaboration with Doxa Deo’s ‘Christmas Lunch on Jesus’ project, where hampers of fresh food are delivered to around 500 families in the borough.
Proceeds from CD sales will go towards MMF’s ‘With One Voice’ singing strategy, providing more opportunities for the community to sing and make music together.
