Peter's Fund (Peter Woodings Bursary Fund)

Peter’s Fund is a charitable fund managed by Merton Music Foundation (MMF) to help young guitarists in the London Borough of Merton and surrounding areas. Launched in May 2010, funding is now available to assist with the purchase of good quality instruments (classical guitars) and subsidising the cost of guitar lessons with MMF. The fund was established in the memory of Peter Woodings, who was an Associate Director at MMF and played a significant part in the development and growth of Merton Music Foundation for a period of over sixteen years. Sadly, Peter passed away in September 2007 and is much remembered as a dedicated and inspirational tutor by the hosts of students he taught over many years at MMF. In addition, Peter was a well-respected and enthusiastic conductor of the Junior and Senior guitar ensembles, both of which he founded during his time at MMF.

Criteria for application to the fund: Applications are considered for students primarily in the Merton area. Consideration may also be given to applicants in nearby London boroughs. Students will only be supported if they receive lessons through Merton Music Foundation and must continue for the length of the award made.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: ONGOING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

To be eligible to be considered for an award, you must:

1. Be receiving guitar lessons through the Merton Music Foundation, and

2. Have made significant progress and demonstrated a commitment to practice and participating in school or MMF events

To apply for an award, you should:

1. Complete the application form in full

2. Attach a copy of your most recent grade examination certificate and, if possible, your mark form if appropriate

3. Attach a supporting letter from your instrumental tutor at MMF

Awards from Peter’s Fund are only for students of Merton Music Foundation and if you decide to study elsewhere, the award will be withdrawn. Grants are made in the form of a payment for instrument purchases (proof of receipts are required and must be dated after the award date) or as a subsidy towards the costs of instrumental tuition with MMF. Payments to help with instrument purchases are usually made in instalments over a period of two years. Further awards for tuition may be available for a period of up to three years of study, subject to available funding and satisfactory progress being made with your tutor at MMF.
